Ingri: Hi, I want to share with you a little bit about acupuncture, its history, what it treats, answer some questions and show you a demo where I treat a patient.
With acupuncture we have point sites all over the body on the surface of the body; they’re surface points. They don’t hurt. They’re gentle, they’re painless and they’re very effective. There are probably 350 main points. And you don’t have to be completely naked for your treatments, we can cover certain parts.
We tend to treat from the knees down, the elbows down, the back, around the face, sometimes the abdominal area. These are the point sites that we tend to treat the most. These are all commonly treated points - don’t get me wrong - but we’ll probably only treat 5 or 10 of them at any given time. You might find that we’re treating points that are on the ankle for lower back. We’ll do lower back points as well as perhaps some upper back - even though it’s just your lower back, we’ll treat the whole back or some points on the whole back - maybe one on the wrist and maybe one on the ankle to add to it.
The energy system works through the whole. All these points are interconnected in a whole long circuitry of about 12 main meridians. So there’s a ripple through the whole system to clear any constraints that you might have. The points belong to meridians that also go deeper, but the point sites we treat are just on the surface.
Now, acupuncture is a holistic therapy. It’s used for medicine, but it treats all conditions. So no matter what symptoms you have or what conditions; what is going on with your medical history - you could be having back pain, you could be having headaches, you could be having digestive problems, you could have fertility issues, you could have joint pain, arthritis, cancer, diabetes - whatever complicated situation you’re in with regards to your health, or just something like tennis elbow, anything that is going on the acupuncture is relevant to address any symptom or set of symptoms. Because it’s holistic it’s going to look at the causative relationships: what’s causing your symptoms more fundamentally. And it will always address the causes, and give you immediate relief, but then continue to work more deeply into the causes.
And that’s why I say it works more deeply in time. Let’s say you had a car accident 10 years ago, and now you’ve got headaches, and you’ve got back pain and stuff like that residually still. The acupuncture will in fact work on those original relationships, those original traumas that are in your electromagnetic field carried by your body through time. And releasing all of that actually gives a lot of deep improvement. It’ll clear all kinds of secondary symptoms that belong to those original syndromes or those original causes. Stuff from your early childhood can be part of the causative relationships that predispose you for symptoms later in life.
So it’s really neat to come in for acupuncture in any point in time with whatever you have going on, and then have the acupuncturist do pulse diagnosis, tongue diagnosis and just checking out your whole body, touching you, finding out where your tension is and all kind of stuff that goes on. Also listening to your whole history of what’s gone on through your whole life to see the spiral, to see the development of symptoms through your life. I think it’s fascinating, and I get a lot of fun out of improving peoples health don’t get me wrong, but also seeing the history of how they got to where they are. That’s a discovery we do together. I think the initial consultation is very exciting. We spend at least an hour. We go through your whole history and everything that’s been going on with you so that we can more correctly clear very quickly what’s happening in the present tense.
OK, that’s the end of segment 1. In the next segment we’re going to get right to the point - get it - where I’m going to do a demonstration on a patient.
