Dr. Kipp: Welcome to our introduction to chiropractic. During the first session, what you’ll hear [are] questions that are most commonly asked in a chiropractic office or before you attend a chiropractic office. During our second session you’ll hear a few follow-up questions along with a short demonstration. We hope you enjoy!
Colleen: I’m here because I ride, and I’ve ridden the same horse for about four or five years. He has a hip that’s elevated on the right hand side of his body. I’ve spent a lot of time with the vet getting chiropractic care, with the myofascial therapist, and we’ve gotten him pretty straight. But the myofascial therapist looked at me and said: "You’re all crooked on the right hand side. You need to get straightened out. If you don’t, your horse is just going to get crooked all over again." So that’s why I’m here. I want to know if you can help me get straighter, and also I’m really curious to know what your background is.
Dr. Kipp: Colleen that’s a really great question, and it’s probably the most commonly asked question here in the office. The answer to it is actually in the examination that we’re going to do. Based on what you have told me about your condition - with the sloping shoulder and the unlevel hips - there’s a group of tests that we’re going to go through: orthopedic testing, neurological testing, and a chiropractic analysis to look at something called vertebral subluxations. That’s nothing more than a joint that gets jammed up in your body that’ll cause some irritation to a nerve. And it can result in a lot of different symptoms like pain, numbness, tingling or just simple postural distortions like you’re talking about.
I’ve had numerous dealings with cases such as yours all over the country. I started off back in Bloomington Minnesota when I went to school for chiropractic - for about three-and-a-half years year round is what the program requires. And then from there I had to go thaw out for a while down in south Florida where I ran an office in Fort Lauderdale. And from there my wife and I decided we really wanted to be close to family, and I like the change of seasons, so we moved back to upstate New York where I built a practice. Then there were some really great opportunities here in Connecticut for us, so we moved down here. And now here we are at Pro Health Chiropractic where we’re dealing with cases such as yours every single day and really getting some fantastic results.
Colleen: Well I concerned. Is this going to take forever? I have a really crazy schedule. I’m all over the place. It’s really hard for me to incorporate something else into it. So I’m a little concerned. Is this going to take a really long time?
Dr. Kipp: Colleen the last thing we want to do is add any more stress into anybody’s life around here. So for your planning purposes, the first visit to the office usually takes about an hour. That’ll allow us to do all of the exam procedures, and go through the case history with you, and figure out if this is the right place for you to be. If it is, for your planning purposes, all the future visits you can plan on being here for about ten minutes. That’s how much time we need to do what we need to do. Certainly as far as the longevity of chiropractic - how long the whole process takes - that’s really broken up into three separate stages. You can do an initial intensive care which just gets rid of the pain part of your problem. We can do more of a corrective level which takes a little bit longer time, or you can do a wellness care approach to your health which kind of works like changing the oil in your car every three thousand miles as a prevention type of approach. That’s what you can expect.
